The Wait Is Over

Shenna here.

I know many of you have been wondering where I've been and just how this retirement training is going.  Well Foma hasn't had her laptop for a while now.  She let the boy use it and he was such a hog.  He's gone again so it's my turn.  Let's seed what cuteness of me you've missed.

I've been learning to walk nicely on a leash.  I love going for walks.  I go potty on a leash too but there wont be any pictures of that.  Privacy and all. You understand.

I like to meet people on my walks.  Everyone wants to pet me even though Foma says it's not true. She says I stand a real good chance though if I don't jump on them.  I'm getting much better at that.  i give really good hugs too.

I've learned everyone gets a turn if I'm patient.  Foma gave us all a treat but she said we had to get on separate beds first and stay until everyone was done.  I was so good.  Pretty sure I like treats.

I'm learning house rules too.  I know to potty outside and you have to go to the right door so they know you have to go.  Foma has bells on the door and I'm trying to learn how to use them.  We have to wait to go in and out of doors.  I'm pretty good with coming in. See.

My Foma says there's a lot more to learn but I'm well on my way.  This retirement job is a breeze.  I'm really getting the hang of it.  Now all I need is a my forever home so I can put all my skills to use.

The Hurdles of Retirement

My Foma said enough with the dreamy holiday photos.  If I really want to get a great family of my own for the new year, I gotta start sharing how hard I'm working on retirement living.  So here goes.

When I first arrived at my foster home I immediately noticed the lack of warm cushy carpet?! Where did it go? How's a girl to walk on these shiny, slippery, surely must be wet all the time floors?  Good thing Foma has do this a time a two.  She put down towels and these tiny pieces of carpet so I could make my way from the front door to the back door.

Thank God for the big rugs near the back door. I was going to just stay there forever.

But then I learned there was water in the kitchen for us pups and the most amazing smell of food.  Ok well this kitchen floor isn't so bad.

Soon I found the scariest place of all had the biggest beds to sleep on but no carpet in sight!  This must be some weird form of doggy torture.  After some trials and a whole lot of errors, I made it!  I learned to walk from one big bed to another.   I had to admit they were way better than the rugs by the door.

I wonder what makes this floor so shiny?  And why do humans like them this way?  Who's that staring back at me?

It's been a couple of weeks now.  Foma thinks I haven't noticed that my safety towels and carpets have been disappearing one by one.  They're all gone now and I walk on the floors just fine.  Well sometimes I slip but I've learned it's best to walk slow and not to panic.

You say you've got shiny floors in your house.  Don't worry, I can handle them.  Shenna shan't be shaky on shiny surfaces.  Try saying that really fast.

Foma says I'm just being silly now so I have to go. I'll be back though with more stories about my life in retirement. Shenna shan't be shaky......... he he he.  I better go.

My Holiday Wish

The holidays at my foster home were ok.  They keep it pretty laid back here.  If I had one wish for the holidays, it would be my very own family so that next year there could be presents and stockings all for me.

If you think you could make that wish come true, please fill out an application and talk to the folks at GEGR.  If you hurry, maybe you can still get me some presents this year.  I've heard you can get great deals at all the after Christmas sales.  I could give you a list if that will help. Just saying.

Time For Introductions

Hi, I'm Shenna!

Yep that's 2 n's not 2 e's.  It's a little different but I'm told it suites me.  I thought it was time I introduced myself properly and tell you a bit about my journey.

I'm 4 years old and I come from a race track in Alabama.  I finished racing in May and I've just been waiting around for whatever was coming next.  I didn't know what that was but I'd heard rumors that it was something called retirement.  Suddenly 2 weeks ago they called my name and said it was my turn for retirement.  I was packed up with 25 other pups and we made a very long trip east.  A few of us got off in VA and 3 of us made our way to home to spend the night.  It was nice there with the familiar sound of other greyhounds.  I got a bath in a real bath tub, got my ears cleaned, nails done and something called a microchip.  There was a lot going on but I took it all in stride because I figured it must all be a part of going to retirement!

The next morning when all the hustle and bustle was done, the 3 of us got a chance to just relax with the other pups that lived in the house.  I found soft carpet and fell asleep.
My nap didn't last too long.  One of the ladies there said she was going to be my foster mom and that I was going to her house. She loaded me and the other female into her car and off we went.  More riding.  Where could we be going next?  I hope there's more soft carpet.

After a while my FoMa stopped to drop my friend Glory at her foster home.  Seems we aren't too far from each other.  Maybe I'll see her again and we can compare notes on retirement.
Then it was back in the car and finally we arrived at my foster home.  Turns out I have a foster brother and sister there and they've been really nice.  Foma says they'll show me all about how to have good house manors.  She said that will make for a really nice retirement.  That's what I want.

My foster sister tells me in retirement you get a family of your own with food, toys, soft beds, nice walks and all the petting you can stand.  Oh boy I can't wait for my very own family.  Follow along as I make the journey to my retirement.
